BURLINGTON, MA  WindESCo, the pioneer in renewable energy optimization, announced today that it has joined WindSTAR, an industry-university collaboration aimed at driving down the cost of wind power, as a strategic partner. WindSTAR, was formed through the collaboration of UMass Lowell and the University of Texas at Dallas. Its members – industry academics, company leaders and innovative startups - work to advance the understanding, development and adoption of technologies for the wind market. WindSTAR is funded through a combination of National Science Foundation (NSF) grants and by industry members including WindESCo.

Through this strategic partnership, WindESCo will collaborate on technology initiatives critical to the wind energy industry as well as engage with other software/hardware companies and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the wind market. WindESCO will support new and existing research projects by providing anonymized data for validating WindSTAR’s research.

“WindSTAR is a fantastic opportunity for WindESCo to collaborate long-term with some of the leading university research programs, guiding the next generation technology developments toward further understanding and enhancing wind plants operations and performance” said Nathan Post, WindESCo’s CTO. “We look forward to working with these university labs and the other industry partners and working to incorporate these exciting developments in our future products.

The WindESCo team has decades of experience working with wind plant operators, and will bring WindSTAR developed technology to its customers for field demonstrations and testing.

WindESCo is in a unique position since we work with a wide range of wind plant owners and OEMs,” said Blair Heavey, WindESCO’s CEO.  “This insight gives us a different view compared to the OEMs and operators currently in WindSTAR and will allow us to push for research that will be applicable for a broad swath of the industry. We’re excited to join WindSTAR’s other members as we continue to expand our brand and become the leading innovator in our space.”
